Will Lionel Messi be included in the attempt to defend the World Cup title in 2026? The Argentine soccer star does not completely rule out that he will still be with the national team then.
“Considering my age and how long it is left, it seems difficult. But it depends on how my career continues. Next time I will turn 36”, said Messi, referring to next year’s Copa América, in an intriguing interview with the Argentine newspaper Olé.
Messi led Argentina to the country’s third World Cup win – and his first – in Qatar in December. The Paris SG player scored seven goals, including two in the final, where he also scored in the penalty shootout that decided the drama against France.
“I love playing football, and as long as I feel good and feel that I am in shape and continue to enjoy it, I will do it. But it seems far away until the next World Cup”.
Lionel Messi will turn 39 years old in the summer when the 2026 World Cup is decided in Mexico, the USA, and Canada.
